TIBETAN EMBLEMS: AN EXPLANATION
UMBRELLA
The Umbrella represents the protection of all sentient beings from illness, harmful forces, and obstacles.
GOLDEN FISH
The twin fish are symbolic of freedom from restraint and the auspiciousness of all living beings in a state of fearlessness, without danger of drowning in the ocean of sufferings.
TREASURE VASE
The vase represents longevity when it contains life-giving water. As the container of treasures it symbolizes the fulfillment of highest aspirations.
LOTUS FLOWER
The lotus signifies the complete purification from defilement of body, speech and mind, and the full blossoming of wholesome deeds in blissful liberation.
WHITE CONCH
The white conch that coils to the right symbolizes the deep, far-reaching and melodious sounds of Dharma teachings. The conch awakens one from the deep slumber of ignorance and urges them to accomplish one's own and other's welfare.
ENDLESS KNOT
This emblem represents the interrelatedness of all things and the endless interaction between wisdom and compassion. It can also be interpreted as the symbol of longevity or the “knot of life”.
STANDARD OF VICTORY
The standard symbolizes the victory of activities of one's own and others' body, speech and mind over obstacles and negativity.
DHARMA WHEEL
The Golden wheel represents the auspicious act of turning the precious wheel of Buddha's doctrine, both in its teachings and realizations, in all realms and at all times, enabling sentient beings to experience the joy of wholesome deeds and liberation.
