I have practiced among the Sufis and in India over many years in the tradition of bhakti, as well as having studied Buddhism, the Christian Mystics and coming from a Jewish background. Thus the Ways of Peace Workshops, now in their eleventh year, have a strong interfaith slant. I have also been leading workshops which combine creativity with Psychosynthesis and spiritual development since the 1980s and work also as a counsellor, writer and poet. Ways of Peace Workshops are for anyone who wants to develop an awareness of the spiritual dimensions within themselves and to find ways of enabling that to transform daily life. It brings together practices from several traditions, Eastern and Western, to facilitate the process of harmonising, stilling and healing the personality and enabling it to open to the Light and vision of the deeper Self. Ways of peace workshops are based on the premise that, despite apparent differences, there is a common thread running through all the major religious and spiritual traditions, often refered to as the Timeless Wisdom. This wisdom affirms again and again that in order to make and maintain contact with the real Self - the Source, God, the Light, or however one reffers to the One - the prerequisite is love. Love for That and love for all living beings, together with the experience of the total interconnectedness of all of creation. Ways of Peace Workshops contend that it has never been more imperative than it is today to foster this experience and this understanding, to bring about peace between peoples and healing to our damaged ecology. The meditation proceeds by simple steps, beginning by coming into the present moment, finding the stillness, beauty and abundance within it.We open to the flow of compassion and light, clarity and peace within the inner heart and mind through practices such as breath awareness, visualizations and mantra. After the meditation we reflect together on a story, poem or other writing from one of the sacred traditions which embodies a particular aspect of the path. Sometimes workshop excercises are also included in this part of the session, helping to clarify and integrate the material of the reading. Above all you are invited to find your own active and creative responses to the literature and the meditation in your work and life. In the new season of Workshops which begin on Sunday 23rd September, after the meditation practice we will be using creative work for healing and to help in dealing with obstacles and clarifying our vision on the spiritual path. Much of this work has Psychosynthesis as its basis.
